News > A win, podiums & fastest laps at Combe June 13th

14/06/2009

At a warm and sunny Castle Combe on Saturday June 13th, Wayne Poole Racing, with the team boss making a rare 2009 appearance, enjoyed a successful day's racing. Felix Fisher put his Swift on pole with Ash Clifford (Van Diemen RF88) and Tom Margetson (Reynard 89FF) qualifying 2nd and 3rd in Class C. In the race Felix Fisher had a big scrap with Ben Norton but despite getting ahead for a couple of laps had to settle for second a hairsbreadth behind but easily taking the win in Class B. Olly Bull was struggling with an oversteering Swift SC92 in the race but still managed to come home 7th overall. A huge battle for the lead in Class C took place with Julian Heap initially leading WPR drivers Margetson and Clifford. Margetson got by to take the lead, followed by Clifford who actually lead the class briefly on his way to setting fastest lap in the class. Tom finished ahead on the road but was adjudged to have taken Heap under a yellow and was give a highly unusual 2sec penalty which, disappointingly dropped him to second. Mention should also be made of a couple of other WPR drivers, Charles Postins over from the US and having a one off outing in the ex Chris Bennett Van Diemen RF88, and Pete Diccox who finished 22nd and 23rd (and unlapped) respectively. Postins, after starting from the back of the grid set an excellent time of 1m 16.39s on his penultimate lap. Race report to follow.
