Poole champion as Rushworth just misses out

Going in to the final pair of races for the 2025 Castle Combe Racing Club championships both Wayne Poole (Formula Ford championship, Van Diemen RF89) and Wayne Rushworth ( Saloon Car championship, MG ZR 1800) were in contention for their respective class wins.

In fact Wayne Poole had the easiest task as one good finish would be enough to ensure victory and, after qualifying third for both races, a steady run to third in class sealed the deal. Wayne didn't start race two but was also happy to have finishe third overall in the championship.

In the same pair of races Steve Bracegirdle managed a couple of eighth places in his Class A Van Diemen RF01 which was enough to secure third in Class A and seventh overall in the championship.

Wayne Rushworth entered the final two races tied on points with his rival James Blake but in a better count back position should the scores remain tied. Things began well with Wayne on class pole for both races but Race One lost out at the start and was unable to get past his two class rivals so finished third although fastest lap and the bonus point kept him in contention. So, going in to Race Two Wayne needed a win and fastest lap to tie Blake but potentially win the Class on the tie break. Race Two began as a repeat of the first encounter with Wayne dropping to third at the start but this time managed to fight past his rivals to take the Class win. But unfortuantely the fastest lap (and championship) went to Blake by 4 tenths. Nevertheless, a very competitive and successful season.

Finally, Ben Heywood was out in the team's Mini Cooper for the Hot Hatch races and was placed 3rd and 2nd in Class E.
