Disappointment for Walker and success for Street
Wayne Poole Racing entered four cars for the 2025 edition of the Walter Hayes Trophy meeting at Silverstone on 1-2 November.
Potential front runner, Alex Walker was in the team's rapid and well proven Van Diemen RF01 and supported by James Colborn's similar RF07. In a pair of Van Diemen RF89s were Sam Street and Castle Combe regular, Wayne Rushworth, having his first Formula Ford outing.
Heat 1 began proceedings with James taking 14th and a place in the Last Chance race where he started third and ran close to the front for the first half of the race before finishing 5th and earning a Semi Final place.
In Heat 2 Sam enjoyed a good midfield battle to come home 12th and a Semi Final starting slot. Wayne played himself in to finish the race unscathed in 25th. Wayne went on to start the Progression race in 22nd and he held station to finish in the same place.
Alex started Heat 4 in third and was with the leaders on the first lap before getting tagged at Brooklands, ending his race. So, having to start the Progression race in 30th, Alex charged through the field to take the lead on Lap 6 and go on to win. In the Progression race Alex started 19th and another strong drive saw him finish 2nd and a decent starting position for the Semi Final.
In Semi Final 1 Sam had an excellent race to finish 18th and a place in the Grand Final while James, starting near the back, had it all to do and despite making up places missed out.
In Semi Final 2 Alex only got as far as Becketts before being collected by another car and was out of the race with broken suspension.
In the Janet Cesar trophy race for cars built before 1995 Sam and qualified a strong 11th for the Final and ran strongly in the top 10 moving up places to finish 5th on the road but this became a podium third place after track limits penalties were applied to thos finishing ahead.
