Reports > 2nd & 3rd for both Guy Parr and Pete Diccox at Aug Combe

The August Cup at Combe August 13/14

Although only having four drivers present at Combe on August 13/14 the WPR team saw plenty of action with both Guy Parr and Pete Diccox scoring 2nd and 3rd place finishes.

Starting with the Combe Sports and GT series Guy Parr only managed 1 lap in practice with his Nemesis 02 before his throttle cable broke so had to start both races near the back of the grid. However this made for an interesting climb up through the field - twice! Guy managed to finish the first race in third and go one better to finish second in the final race despite being bothered by a loose undertray in the closing laps. Des Andrews failed to make the finish in his Megar Hart in both races due to a broken gear selector. Guy also took part in the two BRSCC Open Sports Car races, finishing 9th on both occasions.

Guy was out again for the Castle Combe Saloon Car races in the team Mini Cooper and qualified much closer to Chris Fryer's similar car than in previous races. Once the race was underway a fierce battle between the two Minis took place with positions regularly changing until contact on Lap 13 led to a damaged wheel and retirement for Guy.

Qualifying in the Formula Ford event was tragically cut short but saw Steve Bracegirdle only a couple of tenths away from Class C front runners Cobbold and Houston with Pete Diccox a little further back. In race 1 Steve was held up at the start and retired on Lap 5 after a spin at Camp holed his radiator while Pete managed to keep going until the end for third in Class C. Race 2 had to be stopped and re-started over a shortened 5 Lap distance. Pete made a good start but Steve was experiencing a misfire although he managed to catch Pete up near the end with the two Van Diemen RF89s finishing a close 2nd and 3rd in Class (see below).
