Almost but not quite at Combe on June 17th

After a promising Saturday which netted the WPR team three podiums the Sunday of the double header meeting brought a few misfortunes.

In the Saloon race Guy Parr's Fiesta was holding another excellent second in Class when the gearbox broke on Lap 1. In the Formula Ford race Steve Bracegirdle was having a good battle with a couple of other cars when another competitor took to the grass at Quarry and slammed into the side of Steve's Van Diemen putting him out on the spot. At least Ray Smith managed to complete the race, unlapped in 17th place.

The GT race was looking good for the WPR team when Guy Parr went around the outside of Prebble's Mitsubishi at Tower to take the lead which he held for the following laps despite coming under pressure from Craig Fleming's Juno. However, coming into Camp on Lap 9 a backmarker held the inside line and with Fleming's car right behind Guy had to take the outside line to get past. The backmarker didn't appear to see the Nemesis and, running wide at the exit of the corner, forced Guy off the track and a scary few moments as the Nemesis bounced over the bumpy grass all along the pit wall damaging the wing and bodywork. Robbed of an almost certain win Guy pulled off at the completion of the lap.
